As Sombrero gets closer to release, I’ve been looking for ways to quickly and cheaply create some promotional items. The solution: 3D printing!
TESTING, TESTING
A few months ago I picked up a FlashForge Creator Pro 3D Printer, one of the many different commercial variations of (mostly) pre-assembled parts based on open source specs. Since then I’ve been printing various simple objects to get the hang of how the whole 3D printing thing works.
It took a bit of tweaking to get the coins to print out properly.
After printing, supports had to be removed by hand from the underside of each coin.
While it’s not photographing as well as I’d hoped, both styles have a metallic finish thanks to the little metal flakes embedded in the filament used to print them.
